Wilbert Nelson Toombs (*1899–1979*) ήταν ένας αυτοδίδακτος μαθηματικός που ειδικεύτηκε στην έρευνα της υπερβολικής γεωμετρίας. Ο Toombs γεννήθηκε στην επαρχία της Γεωργίας και είχε μικρή επίσημη εκπαίδευση. Άρχισε να μελετά μαθηματικά μόνος του στα τέλη της εφηβείας του και τελικά έγινε ειδικός στον τομέα.
